As a photographer – especially a Minnesota photographer in the middle of winter – getting to travel for work can be a huge blessing. Now, When you combine that with working with Grace and Aaron – that is when it becomes surreal.
Traveling to Nevada to photograph Grace and Aaron out in Valley of Fire State Park was exactly how it sounds – hot! (compared to our Minnesota winter – not that kind of hot. Get your head out of the gutter). When Grace and I first started chatting about her and Aaron’s wedding plans, they were going in a far different direction – a small, intimate ceremony at a Minnesota park close to Aaron’s family and somewhat simple in nature. While small, intimate, and simple still stayed true to the nature of their day, I can safely say that Las Vegas was not on any of our radars. But, if you ask anyone involved in their day, I think they’d agree it couldn’t have been more perfect.
My favorite part of the day was driving out to Valley of Fire. Aaron and Grace were staying on the strip at the Flamingo – the same hotel they met at a few years ago – and I was about 30 minutes away from them in Henderson, Nevada. Knowing that the drive was a long one and in an attempt to conserve gas, we went together! The time we were able to sit and really chat on the way to our shoot was the perfect flow into an incredible evening of exploring the park. These two have an incredible love for each other, and it was so fun to be invited to document that for them. However, you don’t have to take my word for it, because it’s so apparent in the work we created together!
If you’re ever in Las Vegas and looking for something to do that is outside of the city, be sure to check out Valley of Fire State Park. It truly was a highlight of this trip, so you don’t want to miss it! Learn more about the park here!
If you thought these were good, wait until you see their wedding photos! Be sure to check that blog out here!
